Contest Winner Announced
STAMFORD, CT (December 11, 2008) – Christina Landle, a fourth grader at St. Cecilia School in Stamford, was honored today when Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele made a surprise visit to her school to announce that her drawing is the winner of his Annual Holiday Card Contest for the 4th Congressional District.
When the Lieutenant Governor entered the fourth graders’ classroom, the children didn’t know why he was there. When he revealed that he was about to announce the winner of the drawing contest, the excitement in the air was tangible. Upon hearing her name, Christina smiled and made her way to the front of the room as her classmates cheered.
All students in elementary and middle schools throughout the state were invited to participate. The rules were simple: designs had to have a holiday theme and they had to incorporate some symbol of Connecticut in the design. Mr. Fedele’s office received 1500 submissions this year.
Mr. Fedele cited Christina for the “singular creativity and exceptional thoughtfulness” of her design. She explained that she created the design, a snowman on a blue background with the words “Happy Holidays,” because she “loves snowmen and loves winter.” Christina’s snowman had the Connecticut state seal emblazoned on the bottom snowball.
There are 5 winners in the state, one from each Congressional district. Each winner received a citation from the Lt. Governor’s office and a $50 US savings bond, which the Lt. Governor personally sponsored. The design will be printed on the cover of the congressional district card.
